Who is Evidence America and why do we exist?
Our nation is in trouble. All you have to do is read the headlines to see we are in a moral tail spin, slipping further and further from the God of the Bible.

And our churches are failing too. According to scholars, 80-85% of churches in North America are plateaued or dying with no revival in sight, and our young people are leaving the church at rates as high as 88%.

What is happening? Why are we seeing the collapse of our faith in America and, perhaps more importantly, can anything be done to stop it? In spite of the confusion today, we can identify the causes of our problems, and, yes, there is something we can do about it.

Two Major Causes
Although many problems could be highlighted, two are especially worth mentioning here. First, our faith has lost intellectual credibility in the culture at large.  Christianity is a faith, but it is not a fairy tale faith. Christianity is a faith built on real events in real time in real history. It is a faith grounded on evidence and sound reasoning--in fact, no other religion on earth has the intellectual footing of Christianity. However, in America today, that foundation has been destroyed through the constant bombardment of doubts and skepticism by the enemies of our faith.

Through intellectual attacks, such as the teaching of evolution, assaults on the N. T. documents themselves (such as put forward in The Da Vinci Code), and breeding skepticism about the existence of God, miracles, and absolute truth, our Adversary has caused many to write off the Bible as mythology. In so doing, many--both in the culture and in the church--have written off Jesus and biblical morality. Think about it like this: Why would you accept the Jesus of the Bible, if you have rejected the Bible of Jesus?

So, intellectual questions have come between not only the lost and the Messiah (which explains why our churches aren't growing), but also between the saved and the Messiah (which explains why so many youth are leaving the church). Therefore, any effort to reverse our dilemma must not overlook the intellectual issues brought up by the culture.

The second major cause of the collapse of our faith in America is the failure of the church to deploy every Christian as an instrument of the Great Commission. In other words, though we talk alot about outreach (what I call "Promoting Truth") in our churches, few of us actually do it. We have come to view promoting truth as someone else's job, the pastor, or evangelist, or missionary. However, the Bible teaches that every Christian is to be involved in promoting truth and extending the kingdom of God. Not only this, but, in many cases, we've turned to politics as our agent for cultural change--a faith that fails us again and again.

What we need in America is not another "great" politician, but a return to a personal responsibility for the Great Commission.

Enter Evidence America
Evidence America was started to overcome these two major issues. We are a non-denominational, Christian ministry that, for the glory of Christ, is devoted to...

Strengthening Biblical Faith. Our people have questions, questions that keep them from fully selling out to the Lord, questions that can cause them to abandon their faith down the road. One of our central goals to to make their faith in God, Jesus, and the Bible as solid as a rock.

Driving Church Growth. We cannot wait and watch for kingdom growth; by the power of God, we must drive that growth by aggressively promoting truth in our spheres of influence. We exist to train, equip, and organize the people of God to do just this.


Advancing Cultural Change. Politics cannot save us, nor can it change the moral and spiritual climate of America. Only when the heart is changed can the culture truly transform, and the only instrument that can do this is the gospel. We're here to forcefully advance the gospel and thereby make genuine cultural change a reality.

So how are we going to do this? What tasks will we take on to accomplish these grand goals? There are two:

1. Answer Faith Questions. As mentioned above, people in our society are pounded daily with doubts and questions about biblical Christianity, and those doubts are devastating biblical faith inside and outside of the church. Evidence America gives solid, well-reasoned, biblical answers to the common questions posed in the culture. Here are a few examples of the questions we answer:

• Why does God let us suffer?
• Does science disprove the Bible?
• What does the Bible say about dinosaurs?
• Are all Christians hypocrites?
• Was Jesus God or just a man?

2. Train and Organize to Advance Truth. In order to reignite the passion and effectiveness of Christian evangelism, Evidence America trains Christians on lifestyle outreach principles and then helps to organize them for ongoing training and accountability. Our training focuses on questions like these:

• How do I get to know a lost person?
• Do I have to go door-to-door?
• What do I say when I get a question?
• How do I share the gospel?
• Does everybody come to faith like Paul?

Specific Ministry Activities
So, when the rubber meets the road, what kind of things does Evidence America actually do? Good question. First, we speak and teach nationwide on faith questions and outreach training. We do conferences, speaking engagements, and training seminars on these two broad areas. Then, we develop teaching tools, such as DVD and written curricula, books, articles, and online courses, to equip Christians in these two important categories. Finally, we partner with churches to develop culturally-relevant, biblical growth strategies. In other words, we work with pastors and church leaders to improve in the areas of answering questions and advancing truth.

A Vision That Will Change Things

First, we see tens of thousands of Christians nationwide trained and certified in both giving answers and promoting truth, what we call "Evidence Specialists." These folks will be trained and organized to impact the lost on a daily, ongoing basis. Imagine what could happen if 50,000 Christians were equipped and organized to advance the kingdom in America.

Then, some of those Evidence Specialists will be specifically trained to engage the lost in the virtual world, the Internet. Millions of Americans enter the virtual social world each day, and we envision thousands of "Online Specialists" taking answers and truth into that world around the clock. Could you be one of those?

Next, we see "Answers Centers" across the country. Think of these as a cross between a museum and a conference center. Here you can bring your lost friends to hear our experts give answers to their specific lists of questions. And, more than this, these Centers will have real life displays and support materials that confirm biblical Christianity. Imagine if you had a friend who doubted the supporting documents of the New Testament and you could take them to an Answers Center where they would actually see a replica of the Dead Sea Scrolls, or watch a reinactment of the copying process of ancient scribes. Would this help your conversion efforts? How about one of these in every state?

Then, we see a nationwide mercy ministry to demonstrate the love of the Cross in the lives of hurting, needy people. Imagine you're working with a single mother. During the course of your interactions you learn she's having trouble buying groceries for her four children. You could go buy them for her, but what if, through Evidence America, you could tap into resources for her that not only include groceries, but child care, utility assistance, and positive activities for her children at local churches...and all of this at your fingertips. Now, would that be powerful or what?

Finally, we see this model applied across the globe. We see this ministry as a tool for global kingdom expansion, applying the skills and competencies of Evidence America in all corners of the world.
